Workshop Cultural institutions in Post-Soviet Russia, 10-11 December, Aleksanteri Institute, Helsinki

Aleksantri Institute by support of Finnish Centre of Excellence in Russian Studies “Choices of Russian Modernization” organized interdisciplinary workshop on cultural institutions in Post-Soviet Russia.  Organizers bought together political scientist, sociologist, researches of culture and communication. For two days participant were discussing transformations that has occurred with cultural intuitions in Russia after the collapse of the USSR.

 

Research assistant, Aleksandr Zverev, and research fellow, Ulla Pape, presented international Laboratory for Nonprofit Sector Studies at the Center for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector.

 

Aleksandr made a report about heritage movement in Moscow. He traced development of the movement and showed what changes has happened during last six years. He also described communication model of Moscow heritage movement and explained how and why activists choose protest tactics.

 

Ulla Pape together with Anastasia Smirnova, CEO of SVEMSI architect bureau and head of “Strelka Institute” educational program, told about reorganization of Moscow libraries and the social effects these transformations may bring.
