Scientific seminar "New forms of public-private partnerships in the US charity" was held in the Center for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector HSE. Report was presented by Stefan Toepler, Senior Research Fellow of the Laboratory, Professor of George Mason University (USA), co-editor of the International Encyclopedia of Civil Society.

 

Stefan Toepler of George Mason University (U.S.) is a recognized expert in research on the non-profit sector and the author of more than 70 publications in international journals. 

The term "public-private partnership" becomes more and more widespread in the United States for denotation of various forms of cooperation between the state and private charities.This cooperation have been activated in recent years due to the activity of departments for cooperation with the government established and actively operating in many funds. The catalyst for this cooperation was the influence of recession on federal and states budgets, as well as the Obama administration's efforts aimed at the development of social entrepreneurship and the creation of large-scale public-private partnerships, such as the Social Innovation Fund and the Fund for Investment in Inovation. These funds disseminate innovative programs of social development at the local level.  In his presentation Stefan Toepler considered also challenges and obstacles faced by funds seeking actively cooperation with the state.
