Academic Supervisor of the Laboratory Lester Salamon presented a report “10 myths about global civil society" at seminar of HSE's Center for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector.

Professor Lester Salamon is the head of the Center for Civil Society Studies, Johns Hopkins University (USA), the manager of the large-scale comparative research project of the nonprofit sector, which was implemented in 45 countries for over 20 years. Since 2014 Professor Salamon has been headed the recently established Laboratory for Nonprofit Sector Studies at Centre for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector (HSE).

The shortage of reliable empirical information about civil society on a global scale seems to be more and more appreciable with increasing activity of civil society organizations at the local, national, regional and international levels. There are any kinds of myths among the public sphere and politicians about how organizations of nonprofit sector work and how they are funded. Professor Lester Salamon has investigated 10 most common myths and gave assessment based on his experience of long-standing cross-country studies of nonprofit sector.
